Privacy Policy

Your privacy is our priority

TL;DR: Butter Pass stores everything locally on your device. We don't collect, store, or transmit your card data. No accounts, no cloud, no tracking. Your cards are yours alone.

1. Introduction

Welcome to Butter Pass ("App," "we," "us," or "our"). Butter Pass is developed and operated by William Richard Termini (ABN 47 283 458 067). We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring you have a positive experience on our App. This Privacy Policy explains our information practices, what data we collect, how we use it, and your choices regarding your information.

This Privacy Policy applies to all users of Butter Pass on Android and any future platforms. By using Butter Pass, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

2. What We Don't Collect

No Cloud Storage

Butter Pass does not store, sync, or transmit your card data to any cloud servers. All your card information remains on your device only.

No User Accounts

We do not require you to create an account, sign in, or provide personal information like email addresses or phone numbers to use Butter Pass.

No Tracking

We do not track your location, monitor your card scanning habits, or collect analytics about how you use the App beyond standard Android crash reporting (which you can disable).

No Personal Information

We do not collect personal data like your name, address, age, or any other identifying information.

3. What We Do Collect

Card Data (Local Only)

Any card information you enter, scan, or import (card names, barcodes, QR codes, images, balances) is stored exclusively on your device using your device's local storage. This data is never sent to our servers or any third party.

Crash Reports (Optional)

Android may automatically send crash reports to Google Play if the App crashes. These reports are anonymized and don't include your card data. You can disable this in your device settings.

App Performance Data

We may use standard Android development tools to understand general app performance and stability, but this data is anonymized and never linked to your personal identity or card data.

4. How We Use Your Data

5. Permissions and Their Purpose

📷 Camera Permission

Purpose: To allow you to scan barcodes and QR codes directly in the App when adding cards.

How it works: The camera is only accessed when you choose to scan. No images are saved or sent anywhere unless you explicitly save them.

📁 Storage Permission

Purpose: To save card data and custom images locally on your device.

How it works: All files are stored locally on your device. We never access, read, or transmit files outside the Butter Pass app directory.

📸 Gallery/Photos Permission

Purpose: To allow you to select and crop photos from your device for card customization.

How it works: You control which photos you upload. Photos are only used locally to customize your cards.

🎨 System Theming

Purpose: To respect your device's system theme preference (light/dark mode) and display colors accordingly.

How it works: This is a standard Android feature and no personal data is collected.

6. Advertising & Consent

Optional Ads

Butter Pass may display optional banner ads powered by Google Mobile Ads. Ads are only shown after you explicitly consent through the App's consent management system.

Your Consent Control

You can manage your ad preferences at any time in App Settings. If you do not consent to ads, none will be displayed.

Jurisdiction-Specific Opt-Out Rights

Important: Your right to opt out of ads applies only in jurisdictions where legally required by applicable data protection and privacy laws, including but not limited to:

In other jurisdictions where not legally required, ads may be displayed regardless of opt-out preferences. However, we recommend using the in-app settings to manage your advertising experience.

Tracking & Ads

Even with ads enabled, we do not track your card usage or personal behavior. Google's standard ad serving policies apply—please review Google's privacy policy for details on how they handle ad serving.

7. Third-Party Services

Google Mobile Ads

If ads are enabled, we use Google Mobile Ads (Google AdMob). Please review Google's Privacy Policy to understand how they handle ad-related data.

ML Kit & Barcode Scanning

Barcode scanning may use Google's ML Kit. Barcode detection happens locally on your device—no images are sent to Google servers. For details, see ML Kit documentation.

Image Cropping (UCrop)

Image cropping is handled locally by the open-source UCrop library. No images are sent elsewhere.

Other Third Parties

We do not integrate with other third-party services that would collect or transmit your card data.

8. Data Security

Local Encryption

Your card data is stored on your device using secure local storage mechanisms provided by Android. We recommend keeping your device's OS updated to benefit from the latest security patches.

Device Security

The security of your card data depends on your device's security settings (PIN, pattern, biometric). We recommend using a PIN, password, or biometric lock on your device.

No Server Breaches

Because all data is stored locally, there is no cloud database that could be breached. Your cards exist only on your device.

9. Data Retention & Deletion

Your Control

You have complete control over your card data. You can edit or delete any card at any time directly in the App.

Uninstalling the App

When you uninstall Butter Pass, your card data is deleted from your device (unless you back up the data manually). We have no copies on our servers.

No Automatic Deletion

We do not automatically delete your cards. They remain on your device until you manually delete them or uninstall the App.

10. Your Privacy Rights

Right to Access

You have the right to access your data anytime—it's stored on your device where you can view it directly in Butter Pass.

Right to Delete

You have the right to delete any card or all cards at any time using the in-app delete function.

Right to Portability

You can export or share your cards through the App's sharing and shortcut features.

No Right Restrictions

We do not restrict your ability to access, use, or delete your data. You have full control.

11. Children's Privacy

Butter Pass is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately at the address below, and we will delete that information.

12. International Users

GDPR (European Users)

Butter Pass complies with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Since we store data locally on your device and do not transmit it to servers, GDPR requirements for data processing are minimized. You have the rights described in Section 10 above.

CCPA (California Users)

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), you have the right to know, delete, and opt-out of data sales. Butter Pass collects minimal data and does not sell your information.

Other Privacy Laws

We respect privacy laws in all jurisdictions where Butter Pass is used. Your local privacy rights apply.

13. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in our practices, technology, or legal requirements. We will notify you of material changes through the App or via the website. Continued use of Butter Pass after changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.

Material changes will be communicated clearly. Minor clarifications or formatting changes may be made without notification.
